About

The basics:
I’m Kara. I’m in my mid-twenties and currently reside in San Diego CA (but never seem to stay too long). I’m originally from Eugene, Oregon. I lived in Ireland for a while and loved it (would still be there if I could). My dream was to work with whales and dolphins. That is still what I would like to do but I have expanded my dream job list. I would love to start a stationary company. Cards make everything better! Study abroad coordinator, professor, puppy trainer, and secret agent also make the list. I studied history in college. I’m kind, love hard, and think too much about everything. Coffee is my happiness in cup. I’m always up for a hike, surf, or swim. Love the rain, and dogs, although not together. I like to run and wish I was fast. Would have loved to be an Olympian but who wouldn’t. Clearly I’m a bit of a dreamer. I currently work at a fitness studio. I love that too. You’ll come to find I LOVE a lot of things.

The long-winded answer:
I’m your basic mid-twenty something trying to navigate life, build a respectable future, while maintaining (and affording) a good lifestyle. As much as following your dreams is a crucial and necessary part of finding your own happiness, I have learned that it’s not everything. The chase teaches us more about who we are, where we come from, and shapes us into the people we become. I have been fortunate to travel, live passionately, and follow my dreams. I don’t take my experiences and opportunities lightly. I thank God (and my parents) everyday for them. I continue to create opportunity for my self and I never settle. I’m in search of something and sometimes think I know what that something is, and other times I have no idea.
My dream growing up was to work with whales and dolphins. I relentlessly chased that dream and finally the stars aligned for me. I have now been a dolphin trainer seasonally for the past two years and couldn’t be more thankful for the people and the dolphins I have met along the way! I grew up in Eugene Oregon. Go Ducks! Attended the University of Oregon where I met my best friends and then transferred to the University of San Diego to follow that dolphin dream! I graduated with a degree in History. Yes, history. I know, sounds a bit strange given the dolphin dream but it is what it is. History is also a passion of mine. Senior year at USD gave me the fear. For the first time I got the true fear of not wanting something to end. I loved school and I didn’t feel done. I started applying to graduate programs. Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland accepted me and I went! I lived in Ireland for nearly two years and they were the best! My time in Dublin showed me that happiness isn’t found in one place or because of one achievement. It opened my eyes to the fact that I’m more versatile than I ever gave myself credit for. It showed me that the journey is what it is all about. I’m starting this blog to have a creative outlet for myself. I need to write more, design more, and think more in a different way. Writing is certainly not one of my finest talents so bare with me on the grammatical errors, I’m sure there will be plenty. I am also writing this as if it were my travel journal. I’m documenting my journey through my favorite country, with a side portion of life. I want those headed over to the Emerald Isle to see what I see. Wander and get lost! Everything on this page won’t pertain to traveling to Ireland or be a guide to those who live or visit San Diego or Eugene. It will be a mix of the adventure and beauty that these places have to offer. Take a read when you have time or never look at it. It doesn’t matter so much to me. But I do hope that those who take the time to read, or look, or do whatever you do on a blog – enjoy it – and smile – and let your curiosity of a new place and new town wander.

Best fishes,
Kara
